At the end of this year, we finally taught ourselves how to make tofu. there are some great blogs online, and one that we found, ieatfood.net, had a great post about making a simple homemade tofu press and another on making tofu at home. We made a simple press using two small loaf pans, one with holes drilled in it and the other solid, and made tofu - the first batch we made was a trial run, quite fun and tasty, but very small. The second batch we made to take as part of the Chinese food feast we shared with friends on New Year's Day. That batch came out well and we've included a little photo show of most of the process in this post.

The homemade tofu has an excellent, slightly creamy consistency - we are going to work on firming it up and when our situation for building things is moved along in the right direction, I think we're going to experiment with our first dovetail and/or box joints so that we can make a wooden press with dimensions more to our liking. More on woodworking projects at a later date...
