Super Sunday Pasta Night!!

Press the PLAY button to start the mini-movie!

We've been making pasta from scratch for several years now. It's very easy to do and makes awesome pasta. My grandma made all her pasta from scratch and I inherited a pasta maker from her, a lovely stainless steel atlas, that I enjoy using every time as I imagine how pleased she would be to know that I am making my pasta from scratch. Shawn enjoys making it this way too. The little photo video that Shawn put together and another short one to follow are kind of fun to watch. The oyster mushrooms were locally cultivated and simply beautiful. Pearly white with gray edging, really plump and still in a nice cluster. The curly green kale was grown in Mt. Vernon and was very fresh and good!! Yummmmmmm!!!

We had a great weekend after a nice Thanksgiving with family. Yesterday Shawn worked on big work project at a neighbor's place, replacing and repairing fencing - a job we are going to work at together as well. The site is beautiful, a ten acre horse pasture overlooking the San Juan Islands and open to the bright southern exposure. Awesome worksite and good outdoor work. Shawn had a good time and I'm looking forward to helping too.

I did the big weekly cleaning of the house, played the stereo really loud, worked a bit on the books, generally caught up and then took a two mile straight run. My first ever without pause!!!! (Our typical pattern is to run for eight minutes, walk a minute, run again, etc.) So this was a really cool milestone for me and I'm still a bit in awe. I knew I could do it but it felt great to just stretch out and go for it. I think I could have gone farther but I didn't start till four and dark was beginning to draw down. Wow, I feel so accomplished!! Two years ago this would have seemed like an impossible undertaking to me. :-)

Today we took a very long walk over to the lighthouse park on the other side of Point Roberts. The sky was wonderfully blustery, with big dark purple brooding clouds, stretches of white and patches of blue and sunlight peeking out as well. We watched the water for a time and soaked in some sunshine and then headed home. Ran into some neighbors on the way home and then got in to make a delicious dinner of homemade pasta with local kale and mushrooms with onion, garlic and oil cured and Kalamata olives sprinkled with grated Parmesan to celebrate week's end.

Here's a short video of me making home made pasta:

Bye!
